Sustainability and Climate Action

At Bushy Leaze, we’re committed to helping children learn to care for the world around them.  By using resources thoughtfully and building small, sustainable habits into our daily routine, we can make a big difference.  We’re working together with our staff, families, and community to create positive change.

For more information, take a look at our sustainability and climate action plan.

Young Alton Climate Action Network (ACAN)

We are part of Young ACAN - a network to empower young people in the Alton area to fight climate change and create a greener future.

Our focus this year is "Eating for the Planet".  We have started growing our own fruits and vegetables and minimising food waste.  We attended the Young ACAN conference in January to find out more.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

By donating old Christmas jumpers to our reuse sale, we not only saved them from going to landfill, but everyone looked wonderfully festive too!

Our World Book Day preloved book swap saved around 4-8 trees, the energy of a 1,700 mile car journey and 20,000 litres of water, compared to buying new books.  And, best of all, the children loved discovering and reading their "new" books!

We have been encouraging the children to bring in a "naked lunchbox" to cut down on plastic waste.  Before we started we collected two big bags in just one week!  We're aiming to reduce this by at least half!
