Special Educational Needs (SEN)
Our inclusive nursery provides the highest quality education and care for all. Thirty nursery places are reserved for children living in East Hants who have special educational needs or disability. These children are placed by the local education authority at the recommendation of a multi-disciplinary assessment team including health visitors, speech and language therapists, doctors and educational psychologists. Children have a range of needs from a speech and language delay to more complex difficulties. If you think your child may be eligible for a SEN Nursery place you can find out more information and read our SEN Information Report HERE.
Our staff are committed to giving all children equal access to nursery activities within the capabilities of each individual child. We plan for children with individual needs in order to ensure that all are making progress in line with their developing abilities.
The school adheres to the DfE "Code of Practice for SEN" and the assessment of children with SEN is a very important part of the school's work. A multi- disciplinary team are available to give advice and to support the school staff in this work.
Transport to and from school can be arranged for children on Special Needs Placements living more than 2 miles away from the Centre. The need for transport will be discussed on confirmation of a nursery place. Children on transport quickly form strong bonds with their escort and driver and the journey becomes an exciting and welcome part of their day.
